Interconnection

If you have purchased small power production equipment—such as solar panels—and you’re ready to put it to work, please contact PEC at least 60 days before interconnection and submit an Interconnection Agreement. Be sure to review our updated Interconnection Policy before completing the agreement.

Installing member-owned generating equipment with a production capacity greater than 20 kilowatts first requires an interconnection study. We'll meet with you to outline the study's terms and conditions, and PEC staff will perform the study. Costs for the interconnection study are borne by the member.

Net Metering
Interconnected service uses net metering, which routes power through a single meter that measures the PEC-delivered electricity you receive and subtracts the amount of electricity exported by your equipment. This saves you the expense of purchasing an additional meter and allows you to receive a credit for any surplus electricity you export. Surplus electricity above what you consume during your billing period is credited to you at PEC's avoided cost, which is the fuel cost, with no capacity component.

The most current avoided cost figure available from PEC's various wholesale providers is for power sold in January 2010. That avoided cost comes to $0.0355 per kilowatt-hour.

For more information about our Interconnection program, call your nearest PEC office and ask for the district engineering section.
