3/13/2012 5:21:48 PM

Pedernales Electric Cooperative is seeking member feedback on proposed revisions to the Co-op’s 2008 goals for energy efficiency and renewable energy. The revisions, proposed by PEC’s Board of Directors at its Feb. 20 regular meeting, are part of the Co-op’s effort to redefine the goals.

The proposed goals and related fiscal impact statements are posted at the Co-op’s website, www.pec.coop/feedback, for members to review. PEC will accept feedback on the goals online and through the mail for 60 days, through May 10, 2012. Mailed-in comments must be postmarked no later than May 10, 2012, and should be sent to:

PEC Feedback, P.O. Box 1, Johnson City, TX 78636

In addition, members will have the opportunity to give PEC feedback at the Co-op’s April 2 member forum, which will take place from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at PEC’s E. Babe Smith Headquarters Building in Johnson City. The forum also will be streamed live at www.pec.coop.

The proposed revised energy efficiency goal calls for reductions of 15 percent of future demand growth for the years 2013 and 2014 and 20 percent for the year 2015 and subsequent years. The Cooperative's current energy efficiency goal, originally adopted in September of 2008, established a goal of achieving reductions of up to 20 percent of the future energy requirements of residential and commercial users.

The proposed revised energy efficiency goal also calls for energy use reductions to be achieved by expanding existing energy-efficiency programs in addition to implementing new, cost-effective programs. PEC also has posted online an independent report outlining potential programs that could be implemented with additional PEC funding.

The proposed revised renewable energy goal calls for 30 percent of the Co-op’s annual system peak demand be satisfied from renewable generation resources, including renewable generation equipment installed by members interconnected to PEC's distribution system, by the year 2020. PEC’s current renewable energy goal, originally adopted in October of 2008, established a goal to purchase or generate up to 30 percent of the Co-op’s electricity from renewable energy by the year 2020.
