Call Before You Dig
PEC’s underground lines carry enough electricity to seriously injure or even kill anyone who comes in contact with them. If you plan to dig deeper than 16 inches on your property using mechanical equipment, please call 1-800-DIG-TESS (344-8377) first. This action is required by state law and could save your life.
The DIG TESS One-Call Notification Center will send a representative to mark the location of nearby underground facilities so that you can work safely. Call DIG TESS at least two days and no more than 14 days before starting your digging project. This time frame ensures that markings stay visible. Painted lines could fade, or marker flags might not stay in place, if you call too early.
You must take advantage of this free service, as you could be liable for damages if underground facilities are affected by digging.
For more information, visit the DIG TESS Center.
Important: DIG TESS will mark only lines placed by a utility. Lines installed privately or by an independent builder are not eligible for marking by DIG TESS.
It’s the Law
- When using mechanical equipment to dig 16 inches or deeper, state law requires that you call 1-800-DIG-TESS at least 48 hours in advance to locate underground electric lines.
- If this law is not followed, you may be fined $500 to $5,000.
- You are liable for damages to PEC facilities and all the liability the Cooperative incurs as a result of the contact.
