Youth Tour

Applications for Youth Tour 2024 are now closed. All applicants will be notified of their status by February 1, 2024.

Each summer, our high school delegates join 1,500 students from electric cooperatives across the country on an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to:

  • Tour historical sites, including Arlington National Cemetery, Capitol Hill, the Lincoln Memorial, Mount Vernon, the Smithsonian Institution, the U.S. Supreme Court, the Washington National Cathedral, and more.
  • Meet local political representatives and learn more about our local and national government.
  • Create lifelong friendships with students from all around the country!

When applications are open, PEC invites local students to apply for the Youth Tour trip to Washington, D.C. To become a PEC delegate, students must:

  • Have completed their high school sophomore, junior, or senior year by June 2024.
  • Have a parent or legal guardian who is a PEC member in good standing.
  • Be available to attend the trip June 16-23, 2024.
  • Complete an online application by January 4, at 11:59 p.m. This will include:
    • Two short-answer responses.
      • Question 1: Tell us what you believe an ideal candidate looks like to represent PEC and Texas at the Government-in-Action Youth Tour, and how you fit those criteria. What makes you an ideal candidate?
      • Question 2: Based on your research and what you know about the Youth Tour experience, what do you hope to learn or accomplish if you are selected as a delegate?
    • A current resume: The current resume should be uploaded as a PDF, and should include information such as work experience, extracurricular involvement and activities, examples of leadership positions held, honors and awards, etc., and should not exceed one page.

Students with the highest scores will move to a group interview round.

Winners will be announced in a separate article in late February. For questions or more information, please email [email protected].
