Building Community Trust

PEC’s Junction District Works to Develop Deep Roots in Small Town

With offices in such diverse areas, no two PEC districts are alike. In each town we serve, planting seeds and developing deep roots in the community is essential not only for building trust with members but also for helping the town grow and stay vibrant. That’s why our Junction district works hard to build relationships with the town’s residents.

Each year, Junction employees get together and work with the community in multiple ways. Some examples include taking part in the “Hits for Sticks” softball tournament, helping navigate traffic at Meals on Wheels events, or driving PEC-themed floats and hanging a large American flag at the town’s biggest event, the Kimble County Rodeo Parade.

“It’s small-town life,” Regional Operations Director Craig Meador said. “Everybody knows everybody, and when someone calls in need of help, we always try to see what we can do.”

Along with making appearances, the team also works hard to sow seeds by recruiting and hiring locals.

“Pretty much everybody here has ties to the community,” Meador said. “We’ve actually hired individuals straight out of high school, and others have gone on to college and have come back.”

Every year, Meador and PEC’s Community Relations Team work with Junction’s Community After School Program & Family Center (CASP) to educate students on what it means to be a lineworker. They also attend career days, work with students on building resumes, and perform mock interviews with students who express interest in joining PEC when they’re older.

PEC invests in each of its seven districts in different ways because we are member-focused and people-driven. Whether it’s putting on a community event, working with members to empower our nonprofits, schools, and those in need with our Power of Change Program, or offering scholarships to students looking to further their education, we’re there for our members in more ways than just keeping the power on.
