PEC Hosts Elected Officials to Partner on Emergency Preparedness

Cooperative Provides Local Leaders Behind-the-Scenes Look at Power Restoration

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(MARBLE FALLS, Texas) October 1, 2024 — Pedernales Electric Cooperative hosted local officials on Friday, September 27, at its Safety and Technical Training Center in Marble Falls to discuss emergency preparedness. Attendees at PEC’s Power Connection event included mayors, city council members, city managers, emergency management coordinators, county judges and commissioners from Blanco, Burnet and Williamson counties, and the cities of Jonestown and Lago Vista. Local leaders learned about PEC’s emergency preparations, communications, and response.

While in attendance, leaders had the chance to participate in a hands-on, interactive experience of an emergency power restoration, learning about what the process would look like, and fine-tuning strategies on how best to partner with PEC in an emergency.

“We appreciate everyone who took the time to attend,” said Jared Fields, PEC External Relations Representative. “We often work closely with our elected officials and while we have strong relationships with our communities, this event provides an opportunity to strengthen those ties and work together to explain the intricacies and processes involved in an emergency power restoration. Ultimately, this is the time when they’re most likely to have questions for us or need to communicate updates to their staff and constituents, so we are opening an outlet for those conversations today to best prepare for tomorrow.”

PEC’s lineworkers, technical training team, and operations managers provided information and demonstrations about linework, PEC’s commitment to safety, reliability, and preparedness. The event concluded with lunch and a Q&A session.

“Attending Power Connection was a truly eye-opening experience,” said Leander Mayor Christine DeLisle. “While we may understand the basics of transmission and outage response, there’s nothing like witnessing firsthand the rigorous training and exercises PEC linemen undergo to keep our lights on. This experience gave me a newfound, humbling appreciation for the incredible teamwork between the field crews and operations staff, working tirelessly to restore power in any conditions, at any time of day.”

PEC leaders also discussed the continued and sustained growth seen in communities across its service area. Cooperative leaders addressed how PEC is focused on  its growing communities, planning for continued growth, and working with cities to provide safe, reliable power. PEC will host its next Power Connections event October 3.
